A contemporary interpretation of a classical villa
A house on a hill from which one has a view that reaches all the way down to Lake Constance. The access route isn’t short and visitors drive past a few farms towards the end of the road. The shingles on the facade are a reference to the rural character of the surroundings. It is a cubic house on a large plot of land and it comprises all the villa elements – from the park-like facilities outside (Vogt, Zurich) to the representative entrance access, around which a large variety of functions such as living, dining and even the library and chimney room are aligned.
The individual areas on the upper level are organised as little houses. Theoretically, they could function in complete autonomy. This is almost the case with the nanny’s quarters: she even has her own staircase. An important feature is the sculpted shape of the upper level that includes incisions and the small balconies allotted to each unit, as well as the stays above. Hence the building is enhanced by the organisation of light within as opposed to the decorations in a traditional villa.
A large pool and a small box, the barbecue area, are located outside, as well as a landscaped park. The entrance was made with green stone, while everything inside is very white and full of refined walnut wood (used on the floor and on the built-in furniture). The wall, the residential backdrop in this house, really did belong to the architects after all.
