Ground-breaking ceremony

New council office building in Bülach, Switzerland

Useful. Solid. Beautiful. The groundbreaking-ceremony for the new council office building in Bülach, Switzerland, has kicked off construction work.

Stephan Marending, partner at our office in Zürich who designed the new building, took up the spade to symbolically begin the start of building. As Marending observed at the event, the local administration centre with a total of 7800 square metres gross floor area (above-grade) will be "useful, solid and beautiful”.

Useful as it brings together the urban functions in a very rationally planned building, with floors arranged around a central interior courtyard so as to create a natural sense of expanse and visual communication.

Solid best describes the compact structure that spans out the multipurpose areas between the load-bearing cores and façades.

Beautiful because the new building with its quiet, sedate architecture says much about the natural feel of the building and serves as a point of reference in the urban setting.

The scheduled date for completion is February 2021. General planner of the building is the Swiss based enterprise Implenia.
