Austrian Environmental Award for Montagne du Parc, Brussels

Sustainability on a large scale

On 30 November 2022, Baumschlager Eberle Architekten received the Austrian Green Building Planet Award (AGPB) from the Ministry of the Environment in Vienna for the second time. In 2019, the Green Office Enjoy office building in Paris was awarded. This time it is the multifunctional centre of the bank BNP Paribas Fortis at Montagne du Parc in the centre of Brussels. Both have in common the careful management of energy consumption throughout the construction process, but they differ in their dimensioning. The Montagne du Parc building has a gross floor area of 100,000 sqm and accommodates over 4,100 employees. Sustainability is a top priority at the Montagne du Parc. Compact construction, cooling water treatment in the basement and photovoltaics on the green roof make a significant contribution to almost reaching passive house standard in terms of consumption. Sustainability also means the building's cultural entry for the centre of Brussels. The flowing form, arcades and light concrete columns with green gravel impact convey elegance and urban harmony for the building's surroundings.

The AGPB Prize 2022 honours architectural competence and technical achievements of Austrian companies worldwide. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of the Environment, the Chamber of Commerce and Advantage Austria, the foreign trade organisation of the Chamber of Commerce.
